Rotary began immunizing children against polio in 1985. Rotary partners with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). Rotary’s main responsibilities are fundraising, advocacy and volunteer recruitment. Rotary has contributed more than US$900 million to the polio eradication effort and Rotary club members have joined with other volunteers to immunize 2.5 billion children with the oral polio vaccine.
